The theme of play will be central to Figline and Incisa Valdarno's Christmas initiatives, which will include not only workshops and readings for young and old, meetings, markets, music and variety, but also an exhibition at Palazzo Pretorio (Piazza S. Francesco-Figline), which will remain on display from Dec. 9 to Jan. 8 (opening: Dec. 8 at 5 p.m.; Egisto Sarri room at Palazzo Pretorio).
Its title is "Toy. The Wings of Fantasy from Antiquity to the Digital Age" and was organized by the Participation Office of the City of Figline and Incisa Valdarno and set up by Marco Rossi.
Admission (to both the exhibition and the opening) is free.
Access hours: Fridays 3-7 p.m.; Saturdays, Sundays and holidays(excluding Dec. 25 and Jan. 1) 10 a.m.-1 p.m. and 3-7 p.m.
EXHIBITION DETAILS - Inside, objects and toys for boys and girls from the present and the past will remain on display and compared, tracing (also in the way they are presented) the gender division in their use. Alongside these, in the rooms on the first and second floors of the building, some fantasy settings and scenes, to which each toy refers, have also been reconstructed. In particular, texts and excerpts from great authors of children's literature as well as thematic musical backgrounds also find their place, so as to make the exhibition multidisciplinary.
Then there is an entire section devoted to boxed games (such as the goose game), which do not require categorization with respect to either gender or age and, therefore, intended for common use. Some of the materials on display have been made available by two local collectors, Serena Naddi and Stefano Stagno, while others have been reproduced by the Archeo Club Valdarno Superiore association, complete with explanatory panels, useful in telling how some modern toys derive from ancient civilizations (oriental, but also Egyptian,Etruscan and Roman) and how they evolved over time. Finally, the itinerary is also accompanied by photos from thehistorical archives of the Arno Photographic Circle, with illustrations of play moments dating back to the 1900s.
