At the MCL Fanin Circle, 3 Magherini Graziani Street in Figline, a Literary Agenda event will be held on Feb. 23. Scheduled in the program as "Themes and Ideas," it will be an opportunity to explore the topic, "Rotating Dervishes. Divine Reality and Phenomenal Reality."
At 5:30 p.m. the event will begin, focusing for the first part on reflections about Sufi mysticism, discovered and discussed through the books of Gabriele Bianchi, a well-known Sufist. Afterwards, the hall will give space for theperformance of two dervish dancers.
Sufi mysticism is an Islamic current of ancient origin, known in the present day for the "whirling dervishes," its disciples who practice asceticism and express a desire to reunite with God through dance. They then dance, accompanied by repetitive and hypnotic music, whirling around themselves until they reach mystical ecstasy.
The next literary meeting at MCL Fanin Circle will be Saturday, Feb. 29, with Sergio Giovone and "Marsilio's Dream in Florence" by Giusy Frisina. To learn about the entire January-March Literary Agenda program click here.
