Edition number 40 for the Giro ciclistico del Valdarno, the race for amateurs Elite and Under 23 class scheduled in Figline and Incisa Valdarno for Sept. 5, during the Feste del Perdono in Figline.
It is a race organized by the association G.S. Nuovo pedale figlinese and has become, over time, a prestigious event in the youth cycling scene, since it is valid for the formation of the national Under 23 team. It was conceived by Enzo Cellai, the historic president of Nuovo Pedale Figinese, who passed away in November 2015.
The start, as usual, is set at 1 p.m. from the Arci club in Incisa; thearrival, on the other hand, is scheduled around 5 p.m. in Piazza Marsilio Ficino, for a total of 160 kilometers to be covered.
And it is precisely in Piazza Ficino that the Committee of Honor will award the winner, just as it did with Fausto Masnada in both 2014 and 2016, but also with cyclists of the caliber of Franco Chioccioli (known as "Il Coppino" because of his resemblance to Fausto Coppi and winner of the Giro d'Italia in 1991) and Michele Bartoli (considered among the best interpreters of road races in the 1990s and 2000s). Both Chioccioli and Bartoli crossed the finish line in Piazza Ficino first in the 1981 and 1991 races, respectively.
In addition, the philatelic cancellation dedicated to the 40th anniversary of this event was presented this morning at the headquarters of the Regional Council of Tuscany (via Cavour, Florence).
On the other hand, for the day of the 5th, during the passage of the competing athletes, road traffic will be suspended on roads under municipal, provincial and regional jurisdiction (according to the contents ofMunicipal Police Ordinance number 165 of August 24, 2017 and that issued by the Prefecture of Florence on August 28, 2017). There will also be a ban on parking and transit on the roads affected by the event to allow it to take place properly (details are contained inOrdinance Number 170 of August 28, 2017).
