A performance of Euripides' "The Bacchae," directed by Carlo Boso with the help of assistant directors Francesco Torre and Giulia Navarra, will be held Sunday, March 12, at 8:45 p.m., at Figline's Teatro Garibaldi (Piazza Serristori).
It is a play based on the original Greek tragedy, dated 407 B.C., but enriched with Aristotelian elements. The result is a performance in which, for the first time in modern times, all performers (protagonists, chorus and extras) use masks intended to give credibility to the characters, as well as to encourage audience identification. On stage, acting parts (in various languages and dialects) will alternate with dancing and singing parts, leaving room for experimentation. Instead, it will be the chorus that will give unity to the drama. The music is by Salvatore Sampieri, the masks by Stefano Perrocco of Maduna while the costumes and sets were made respectively by the tailor's shop and the theater workshop of the National Institute of Ancient Drama (a non-profit organization that has been engaged for years in the promotion of youth theater, including through the organization of an international festival dedicated to Classical Youth Theater). The translation of the texts, on the other hand, was entrusted to the students of theAccademia d'Arte del Dramma, who together with the Municipality of Figline and Incisa Valdarno and the Marsilio Ficino Academy organized this evening of cultural entertainment, to be repeated for schools on the morning of March 13. Performing on stage will be Delfina Balistreri, Alfonso Maria Biuso, Alice Canzonieri, Michele Carvello, Martina Cassenti, Valentina Elia,Gabriele Formato, Roberta Giordano, Giulia Goro, Debora Iannotta, Clara Ingargiola, Elvio La Pira, Marcello Manzella, Giulia Navarra, Paolo Pintabona, Bruno Maurizio Prestigio, Sebastiano Tinè, Zelia Catalano (AIDAS Versailles). Free admission.
Both Sunday's and Monday's meetings are part of the Alchemy project, which the City Council dedicates to promoting youth theater.
