Fourth appointment of the reading group of the Associazione il Giardino.
Cosimo Adamo will read 'Alexis, or the Treaty of the Vain Struggle' by Marguerite Yourcenar on Thursday 9 December at 5pm.
The story does not have a plot in itself, it is in fact a very long letter that a pianist writes to his wife to explain why he has abandoned her. The reason is his homosexuality. The man writing the letter has lived his homosexuality as a guilt all his life and only in the last period has he been able to accept it and make the decision to separate from his wife. During this long letter, events from the man's youth and events from his life with his wife are recounted, and clues are found that lead us to understand what our protagonist's struggle is. This struggle is, however, in vain: can one really struggle all one's life against what one really is?
Possession of the Green Pass is compulsory.
