Eight years after the closure of the last excavation campaign, the results of the restoration campaign are presented for the first time thanks to the exhibition "Shaped by Fire. Stories of Ceramics in Etruscan Figline" and through the volume containing the context study and catalog of the objects, the results of the restoration campaign that involved a large batch of materials found on the site of La Rotta, in the countryside south of the town of Figline and Incisa Valdarno.
It is the word "synergy" that is the key that has made it possible to unveil the hidden treasure chest of the ancient history of this portion of the Upper Valdarno: primarily a synergy between the Soprintendenza Archeologia, Belle Arti e Paesaggio for the metropolitan city of Florence and the provinces of Pistoia and Prato and the Municipality of Figline and Incisa Valdarno, which was born from the first years of excavation and strengthened today, and which has led to the shared goal of creating this exhibition, on the one hand, and the volume of edition of the objects, on the other.
But there are many other synergies that have been realized over time and that have made possible the achievement of the result that will be visible from July 2 to September 10 at the Gonfienti Mill complex in Prato: the excavation activities carried out since 2000 and concluded for the moment with the double campaign 2013-2014 were made possible, in fact, thanks to the passion of the volunteers of the ArcheoClub Valdarno Superiore and the support of the Lions Club 109-Toscana and in particular the Lions Club ValdarnoHost . Thanks to funds from the Ministry of Culture, the Superintendence took care of the restoration and study of the materials, which from July 2 can be admired at the site of the Torre del Mulino in Gonfienti.
The opening of the exhibition will also be an opportunity to preview the volume containing the catalog and study of the materials on display, published by the City of Figline
and Incisa Valdarno.
At the end of the event, maestro Michael Stüve and his ensemble will offer a short concert of ancient music.
