On Wednesday, Oct. 30, at 6 p.m., the Sarri Room of the Palazzo Pretorio (in Piazza San Francesco in Figline) will host the presentation of the book San Donato in Avane, the rediscovered village, in the presence of editor Filippo Boni.
San Donato in Avane, which no longer exists today, was a hamlet "shared" by the municipality of Figline Valdarno and the municipality of Cavriglia, close to the Pieve di San Romolo in Gaville. Boni's book, the brainchild of three former inhabitants - Adelmo Brogi, Piero Romanelli and Piero Secciani - tells its story from its medieval origin to its destruction, which occurred for the expansion of the lumber basin between the municipalities of Cavriglia and Figline between 1977 and 1985. Thanks to the testimonies of those who lived through this last part of history, it was possible to reconstruct its complex mosaic, based on documents and accounts of everyday life.
On the occasion, the photographic exhibition with free admission "A Mine for Valdarno" (from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.), set up on the second floor of the Praetorian Palace, will be extraordinarily open: there will be a way, therefore, to experience or remember through images the last decades of mining activity, the period of greatest transformations undergone by the landscape and of greatest impact on the community. The exhibition is open every Saturday and Sunday (10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.) until Nov. 17, then will move to the Mine Museum in Cavriglia (Nov. 23 to Dec. 29).
