The 2018/19 Concert Season will officially start on Friday, Dec. 14, at 9 p.m. at the Garibaldi in Figline's Serristori Square.
For the occasion, in addition to theOrchestra of Tuscany, a pair of Scandinavian masters will also perform: the Danish Thomas Dausgaard, director honorarium not only of theOrchestra of Tuscany but also of the Danish National Symphony, as well as principal baton of the BBC Scottish Symphony, the Swedish Chamber and the Seattle Symphony; the violinist e Norwegian composer Henning Kraggerud, artistic director of the Arctic Philharmonic Chamber, ready to play the Humoresques for violin and orchestra by Finnish Sibelius (No. 1 in D minor, Op. 87; No. 3 in G minor, Op. 89; No. 4 in G minor, Op. 89; No. 5 in E-flat major, Op. 89; No. 6 in G minor, Op. 89). He is one of the greatest interpreters of the Finnish composer, so much so that he was awarded the Sibelius Award for his live and disc performances in 2007.
Also on the lineup, Requies for chamber orchestra by Luciano Berio, written between 1983 and 1985 in memory of his wife Cathy Berberian, an amazing singer with a unique voice, and the Symphony No. 4 (in E minor, op. 98), the last of the symphonies by Brahms, from a century earlier, the last movement of which harks back to the Baroque era. It is in fact a chaconne, that is, a theme that is repeated stubbornly, in the bass, several times, while the other instruments build on it an edifice of astonishing conceptual complexity.
This and much more will be discussed today at 5:30 p.m. at the Ridotto del Garibaldi (Piazza Serristori), in the meeting entitledThe rigor of form, the perfection of style. Brahms, a bridge between classical and modern, included in the Invitation to Listening review, organized by the Garibaldi Chorus. A way to delve into the texts, music, historical context and authors of the pieces in the Garibaldi Concert Season, in the company of Prof. Alessandro Papini. Admission is free.
