Praetorian Palace

The History of the Palace

Documented since April 1293, the Palazzo podesteriale has been remodelled several times over the centuries. Transformed into a prison at the end of the 19th century, after it had assumed the name of Pretorio in the mid 18th century, it owes its current appearance to the restoration project that architect Ezio Cerpi drew up in January 1926.

The new headquarters of the "Gilberto Rovai" library consists of a single room of 110 square metres, an open space where, upon entering, one can find the main literary novelties as well as 30 shelves with about 14,000 volumes, an area for the service staff, two internet stations and 4 tables for reading and studying, a space for children's reading, plus an outdoor area to be used in the summer.

The library is named after Gilberto Rovai, an incisano who died in 2004 due to neurofibromatosis.

Gilberto Rovai was one of Leonardo Pieraccioni's best friends, who, in the film 'Ti amo in tutte le lingue del mondo', calls his character by his very name.
