"Concerto in D major for Violin and Orchestra" op. 61 by L. Van Beethoven, "Symphony in C major" No. 3 op. 52 by J. Sibelius and "Lemminkäinen's return" No. 4 op. 22 by J. Sibelius. These are the pieces that will be performed by theOrchestra of Tuscany at the Garibaldi Theater (Piazza Serristori, Figline) on April 7, starting at 9 p.m.
Opening the evening with the notes of Beethoven will be Russian violinist Dmitri Makhtin, who is making his first appearance with the ORT in this year's concert season. He is a young musician, born in 1975, who trained between Russia and the United States, collecting prizes and awards in international competitions and contests, such as the "Kloster Schontal Violin Competition" and the "Paganini Prize." In the course of his career he has also collaborated with Boris Berezovsky and Alexander Kniazev in the recording of a DVD with pieces by Tchaikovsky for piano, violin and cello, as well as in the recording of a CD for Warner Classics (with music by Šostakovic and Rachmaninov), thanks to which he received the "Choc de la Musique", "Gramophone Award" and "Echo Classic" awards.
Conducting the ORT, however, will be American maestro Robert Trevino. Born in Texas, it is at the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow that the young conductor has enjoyed great international success since December 2013. For it was there that he replaced maestro Vasily Sinaisky in conducting the new production of Verdi's "Don Carlos"-a performance that was praised in enthusiastic tones by the Russian press and audience. His name is also famous for his debuts with the Orchestra Philharmonique de Monte Carlo, with which he has performed in Europe and Asia, while it was in Florence that he inaugurated the new Opera Hall. Finally, among his accolades we find a nomination for the "Golden Mask Award" as "Best Conductor in a New Production."
