Carnival is also celebrated at the theatre in Figline and Incisa Valdarno. The last appointment, in fact, is set at the Teatro Garibaldi (Piazza Serristori, Figline): it is there that on Friday 12 February, at 9 p.m., theOrchestra della Toscana will perform George Gershwin's 'Cuban Overture'.
After the Cuban and Caribbean rhythms of this symphonic work, dating from 1932, it will be the turn of 'An American in Paris': a symphonic poem from 1928, signed by the American composer himself and on which the Metro Goldwyn Mayer film production company drew inspiration for thefilm musical of the same name, released in 1951.
Following this, the orchestra will move on to the performance of 'The Typewriter': a work by Leroy Anderson, composed in 1950 and known for its uniqueness in terms of performance. In fact, the title itself refers to a typewriter: an instrument that is introduced onto the stage during the performance and becomes an integral part of it.
Immediately afterwards, a succession of excerpts from Nino Rota's 'La strada' (a one-act ballet from 1967, based on Fellini's film of the same name, with choreography by Mario Pistoni) and Modest Petrovich Mussorgsky's 'A Night on Bald Mountain' (one of the first Russian symphonic poems, dating back to 1867) will be performed.
Tickets are available at the Garibaldi Theatre box office (Piazza Serristori) during the following hours: 9.30-12.30 and 16-19.
Prices: numbered stalls seats 15 euros (reduced 10 euros), numbered box seats 10 euros (reduced 8 euros).
