At Norcenni Girasole Village on Saturday, Oct. 13 and Sunday, Oct. 14 1,500 obstacle runners from all over Italy will be competing to tackle the natural and man-made obstacles scattered on the courses of Inferno Mud, the historic OCR (obstacle course race) organized by ASD Italian Sport Lab under the patronage of the City of Figline and Incisa Valdarno.
In a mix of nature, mud, and obstacles with Dante-inspired names (such as Judas Iscariot, Malebolge, Cerberus, and Limbo), the ever-increasing number of participants will put all their skills on the line as they run through the heart of Chianti: strength, endurance, speed, and agility to carry weights, balance planks, climb over walls, swim stretches and suspended obstacles, hang from ropes, nets or pegs, and more .
After former soccer players Paolo Di Canio and Cristian Chivu in the City of Milan edition, crossing Inferno Mud will be young Italian javelin champions Eleonora Bacciotti (Atl. Firenze Marathon) and Giacomo Puccini (Atl. Virtus Cr Lucca), along with TV host and patroness of the event Federica Torti. Also competing with Team Inferno, first in the team standings, was Rocio Rodriguez, great sportswoman and wife of Inter Milan soccer player Borja Valero.
In fact, on Saturday, October 13, the Standard Course (11 km and 30 obstacles) will be held, which in the competitive section will be the tenth and final stage of the OCR Italian Championships and will award the 2018 national titles for men, women, age group and teams, as well as qualifying for the 2019 European and World Championships. Contending for the top step of the podium will be Stefano Colombo (Team OCR Heroes), who will aim to confirm the top title in the Italian circuit after winning in 2016 and 2017, followed by Raffaele Depedri (Team Verona Force Run Army) and Rigers Kadija (Inferno Team). Among women, Carol Zenga (Inferno Team) leads, followed by Paola Bardellini (Inferno Team) and Daniela Lovato (White Donkeys OCR Team).
On Sunday, Oct. 14 on the program, however, the Short Course (4 km and 20 obstacles), also open to minors from 13 to 17 years old, with which they can gain access to the World Championships. On the same distances of 11 km and 4 km will also run non-competitors, of all age groups and more and more women, who choose to live this unforgettable experience, individually or in the more than 150 registered teams, counting on mutual help, to share a day of sport and pure fun.
On Sunday, space for little mudders, ages 4 to 12, with Inferno Kids, which supports solidarity projects aimed at children and youth with its proceeds. In this edition, it will support AMMeC, Associazione Malattie Metaboliche Congenite onlus (Association of Congenital Metabolic Diseases), established to provide support to sufferers and their families, promote awareness of metabolic diseases and stimulate medical and scientific research and prevention. The gates of Inferno are open to all by registering at www.infernorun.it or at the race site.
