Also this year, the Department of Social Policies of the Municipality of Figline and Incisa Valdarno has decided to celebrate the International Day of Disability, established in 1981 with the aim of promoting a more widespread and in-depth knowledge on the issue and to ward off all forms of discrimination.
To mark the occasion, an open day is scheduled for Dec. 3 at the headquarters of four territorial entities (Aseba Association, Lettera 8 Cooperative, L'Aquilone Center and Nuovi Giorni Foundation), which for years have been involved insocialization, social-therapeutic insertion paths, work projects and functionalworkshops to empower the disabled and integrate them into their communities.
It starts at the L'Aquilone socialization center, run by the USL Toscana Centro and located at Via Giovanni Da Verrazzano 2, in Figline, which will open its doors to the public from 10 a.m. to noon to show the program of its activities. It is a socio-recreational center for adults with disabilities, who have the opportunity to engage in sensory workshops, as well as painting (renamed "Art Brut"), bricolage, music and theater, cooking, gardening and horticulture. These activities are complemented by others, such as group outings and various initiatives curated by outside experts.
From 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., open doors will also be open at Via della Vetreria in Figline (inner square, numbers 10,11 and 12), where the Lettera 8 Social Cooperative will allow visitors to see its youngsters at work, in the workshops of papermaking, bookbinding, favor wrapping and participation, or grappling with other work commissioned by local organizations and firms. From 4 to 6 p.m., it will also be possible to visit the premises of their neighbors, the Association Without Barriers (Aseba), which was created as a result of the need that parents of disabled children have to share their experiences and discuss various issues related to the topic of disability. At its headquarters at 103/C Via della Vetreria in Figline, Aseba also conducts art workshops aimed precisely at parents and children, as well as volunteers .
Finally, from 4:30 to 7 p.m., Nuovi Giorni Foundation also invites citizens to visit its headquarters at 5/7 Benelux Street in Figline. This is a reality that manages specially equipped apartments intended to accommodate people with disabilities, with the aim of directing them towards an adult and independent life. Within them, daily living activities are carried out, both residential and semiresidential in nature.
