The coming-of-age story in contemporary television serials between L'amica geniale and Persone normali
In recent years, there have been an increasing number of stories that attempt to recount that particular period of life in which girls and boys seek their place in the world and define it through their relationship, often as a couple, with friends, confidants, lovers. With different settings and perspectives, Elena Ferrante's L'amica geniale, then an HBO series directed by Saverio Costanzo, Alice Rohrwacher and Daniele Luchetti, and Sally Rooney's Persone normali, brought to the small screen by BBC 3 with Hulu, are proposed as two original ways of staging the coming-of-age novel in an increasingly heterogeneous serial galaxy, which also includes works such as Euphoria, We are who we are and The End of The Fucking World, based on the comic strip of the same name by Charles Forsman.
