On Saturday, May 12 and Sunday, May 13, the traditional Gaville Spring Festival, which turns 30 this year, returns. Organized, as always, by the House of Peasant Civilization of Gaville - in collaboration with the Circolo Arci, the Parish of San Romolo, the participation of the Le Muse Association, the Philatelic Circle, the Mine Museum of Castelnuovo dei Sabbioni and Calcit Valdarno Fiorentino, and under the patronage of the Municipality of Figline and Incisa Valdarno - which have planned activities for adults and children, including the opportunity to participate in educational workshops, try and watch hands-on demonstrations of ancient crafts, see a small animal farm live and purchase local products.
It starts on Saturday, May 12, from the courtyard of the House of Peasant Civilization at 6:15 p.m., when a meeting entitled "The Plow and the Brown Coal," which will focus on the Gaville area and the presence of the Santa Barbara Mine, will be held. The meeting-which will be presented by a representative of the Mine Museum-is also sponsored by the Municipality of Cavriglia. At 7:30 p.m., however, there will be a pizza dinner by reservation. Proceeds will be donated to the House of Peasant Civilization Association of Gaville. Sunday, May 13 is the day dedicated to children, with many activities taking place around the area of the Pieve di Gaville and the House of Peasant Civilization. In the morning, starting at 10 a .m., they will be able to watch the work of the blacksmith, the turner, the basket maker and the painters, as well as discover the world of honey, the Castelnuovo mine, the grinding of wheat, the production of bread and cookies and the farm animals . After the 11:30 a.m. mass , there will be a move to the Circolo Arci in Gaville, where in addition to the traditional Tuscan lunch,musical entertainment by the "Friends of Chianti" is scheduled(for reservations: 338.4442564).
From 3 p.m., however, there will be space for workshops of cheese, sausage and other sausage production. In addition, a market of local products (artisanal and typical) will remain set up for the entire day, and the House of Peasant Civilization, where a new lighting system has recently been installed, will also be open to visitors. The loom room, where one recently underwent restoration, will also be reopened for the occasion.
