On Saturday, Dec. 16 and Sunday, Dec. 17, the historic center of Figline will host a double day of initiatives, organized by some of the associations participating in the project "The community at the center," on the theme of integration and multiculturalism (info on the blog comunitalcentro.wordpress.com). The name chosen for this event is "Solidarity Christmas" and aims to raise awareness of the activities of these associations in the area, with practical demonstrations, entertainment and workshops open to children and adults.
Activities will take place inside a maxi gazebo, which will be specially set up in Ficino Square for the occasion. It starts at 10 a.m. with initiatives promoted by the Aquilone Center, which deals with the socialization of children with severe disabilities. Until 12 noon, the proposal is for a workshop for children, aimed at making Christmas decorations for their own homes. Also on display will be some paintings and other items made during the year by guests of the same center, which will be for sale to self-finance its activities. Another part of these paintings, on the other hand, will be displayed in stores in both city centers as part of the "I put myself on display" project. In the same time slot, the Lentopede Association will also be present to offer animated readings from Lorenzo Pignotti's signature fairy tales.
From 3 to 7 p.m. space for creative workshops with: the Figline Coop members section and its wooden craft games from "The Engineering of Good Solace"; the ASeBa association, with its creative loom workshops, selling items for self-funding and collecting children's books for the "Book Box" project (for the creation of "traveling bookstores," run by Aseba and Lettera Otto cooperative youths and to be placed in the waiting rooms of public places, such as town halls, pediatric clinics and pharmacies); the association Il Giardino, with workshops for creating Christmas decorations; the Centro Aquilone, with a new workshop for making Christmas decorations and an exhibition of paintings and gifts. Also from 4:30 p.m. on the platform will be a performance by the pupils of the Kindergarten and secondary schools of the Figline Comprehensive Institute and the choir of the Orthodox community of Valdarno Fiorentino and Aretino, who will offer a selection of Christmas carols, while the volunteers of theASeBa association will conclude the performance, dancing.
The Solidarity Christmas initiatives will continue on Sunday, Dec. 17, starting at 10 a.m., when the children's makeup artists from theHospital Volunteer Association will descend on the square until noon (the same initiative will be replicated from 3 to 7 p.m.). In the morning time slot (10 a.m.-12 p.m.) and in the afternoon time slot (3 p.m.-7 p.m.), theIl Giardino association will alsobe in Ficino Square to present a demonstration of the activities carried out in the cycle workshop, along with the gymkhana and Christmas decoration workshops. Along with the Garden, the afternoon will also feature: theASeBa association, with its creative loom workshops, selling items for self-funding and collecting children's books for the Book Box project; and thePianabeto Jazz association, for its workshop on building small percussion instruments, to be made from recycled materials and foods (such as rice, lentils, quinoa, spelt, barley, semolina) and decorated.
