On Sunday, Dec. 17, at 5 p.m., a lecture by Daniele Corsi (lecturer at the Department of Communication Sciences, Humanities and Intercultural Communication at the University of Siena) will be held at the Sarri Hall of the Palazzo Pretorio, focusing on a comparison of Miguel de Cervantes' novel and its various film transpositions.
Tracing the history of cinema by following in the footsteps of Cervantes and his Quixote, in fact, means reconstructing the evolutionary stages of film language and assessing the development of the relationship between cinema and literature along with the transformations of the new medium. In addition, this comparison allows us to observe how cinema, especially after the advent of sound, adapted Cervantes' language and his famous dialogues and monologues to the context of reference, starting from silent scenes to the Catalan adaptation.
Sunday's meeting is part of the review entitled "Don Quixote. The Figure and Symbol of the Impossible," organized over the Christmas period by the Culture Department of the City of Figline and Incisa Valdarno to acquaint the general public with the famous character created by Miguel de Cervantes and to grasp the relevance of his message.
