Last opening dates for the exhibition entitled "Toy. The Wings of Fantasy from Antiquity to the Digital Age," underway since last Dec. 9 at the Palazzo Pretorio in Figline (Piazza San Francesco) where it can be visited on Jan. 14 and 15 (hours: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.; free admission).
Organized by the Participation Office of the Municipality of Figline and Incisa Valdarno and set up by Marco Rossi, the exhibition focuses on a comparison of toys from the present and the past and their evolution, tracing (also in the mode of presentation) the division by genre in their use. In addition to the objects, the rooms on the first and second floors of the building house reconstructions of some of the settings and fantasy scenes to which each toy refers. In particular, texts and excerpts from great authors of children's literature as well as thematic musical backgrounds find their place, so as to make the exhibition multidisciplinary. Then there is an entire section devoted to boxed games (such as the goose game), which do not require categorization with respect to either gender or age and, therefore, intended for common use.
Some of the materials on display have been made available by two local collectors, Serena Naddi and Stefano Stagno, while others have been reproduced by theArcheo Club Valdarno Superiore association, complete with explanatory panels, useful in telling how some modern toys derive from ancient civilizations (oriental, but also Egyptian,Etruscan and Roman) and how they evolved over time. Finally, the itinerary is also accompanied by photos from thehistorical archives of the Arno Photographic Circle, with illustrations of play moments dating back to the 1900s.
